Wuxiangmian is a traditional Chinese spice mix, also known as the “five-spice” seasoning. It represents the harmony of five tastes – sweet, sour, bitter, spicy and salty. It is used in the preparation of various dishes by baking, frying, stewing, roasting and boiling. It is added to minced meats and is often used in pickling. Wuxianmian has a sweetish and very spicy taste. The Chinese themselves mainly use this seasoning for cooking duck and pork. This seasoning is a constant attribute of any Chinese restaurant, but it is popular not only in China, but throughout Southeast Asia.
