“Piper longum” which means “long pepper” in Latin is a fruit of a tropical perennial plant. It looks like long small pinecones. It has a unique taste. It’s pungent and sweet at the same time. In fact, it’s not as harsh as black pepper. After eating it you may feel a mint aftertaste in your mouth. It’s normally added to meat and mushroom dishes. Having been added to a dish it gives a nice smoked flavor and makes it quite spicy.
